SC notices Delhi Police on bail pleas of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, others

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Delhi Police to respond to the bail petitions filed by activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima and Meeran Haider in the case linked to the alleged conspiracy behind the February 2020 riots in the national capital.

A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria issued notices and scheduled the matter for further hearing on October 27. Justice Kumar clarified that the case could not be listed earlier on September 19 since Justice Manmohan, who was part of the bench, had chosen to recuse himself. He explained that Justice Manmohan had previously worked as an associate in the chambers of senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who is representing one of the petitioners.
