Apex Court fixes June 26 for next hearing
-
The Supreme Court on Monday called the Delhi High Court's decision to reserve its order while granting an interim stay on the trial court's order granting bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal "unusual." The case involves a money laundering allegation linked to the alleged excise scam.
A vacation bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti scheduled June 26 for hearing Kejriwal's plea against the interim stay granted by the high court. The bench noted: "Normally, on stay applications, orders are not reserved. They are passed at the hearing itself, on the spot. So, it is a bit unusual."
The bench expressed a preference to await the high court's order before making a decision on Kejriwal's appeal.
During the brief hearing, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, urged the court to remove the interim stay on the bail order. He argued that the stay contradicted established norms, emphasising that granting bail is different from reversing or cancelling it.
