India is striving for a closer partnership with the European Union and will be more visible in the Mediterranean region in future, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Monday as he discussed regional and global issues with Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares.

Jaishankar is here on a two-day visit - his first to Spain as the External Affairs Minister - nearly two-and-a-half months after Spanish President Pedro Sanchez visited India.

"Delighted to hold wide-ranging talks with FM @jmalbares of Spain today. Productive conversation on our bilateral partnership, including in trade, investment, defence, security, urban development, railways, green hydrogen, climate action and people-to-people ties. India appreciates Spain as a votary for stronger India-EU ties and a reliable Mediterranean partner," Jaishankar said in a post on X.
