Whoever keeps my word will never taste death

In the Gospel of John, Jesus offers the fullness of life both in the here and now (10:10) or in the life hereafter (20:31).

In today's Gospel passage, Jesus tells us that those who keep his word will never taste death. Only those who do not keep Jesus' word will experience death. There can only be life in, with, and through Jesus. In Jesus is life which serves as the light of humanity (1:4). Jesus' disciples who keep his word have already passed from death to life (5:24). Moreover, what a Christian should be truly afraid of is not the physical death but the spiritual death. Spiritual death is separation from God. Jesus' word has the power to bring us closer to God. The one who keeps Jesus' word remains in Jesus (15:4), and remaining in Jesus also means remaining in God the Father (14:23) who is the Source of all life.

How do we keep Jesus' word? What are the things that separate us from God? Are we ready to accept the life which the Father offers us through Jesus?
