Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) saw its net income soar 15 percent in the first half of the year to over P8 billion amid sustained demand for its passenger and cargo services.

- By DEXTER BARRO II

Based on its financial report, PAL’s parent company, PAL Holdings Inc., reported that its net income grew to 8.23 billion during the January-to-June period from 7.16 billion during the same period last year.

Its total comprehensive income stood at P6.7 billion, which fell 29 percent from last year’s P9.48 billion.

Taking into account the second quarter alone, the carrier posted P3.53 billion in net income, 36-percent higher than last year’s P2.59 billion.

With a strong April-toJune period, this now marks the 15th-consecutive profitable quarter for PAL.

Total revenue in the first half stood at 293.34 billion, which inched up from 290.92 billion last year.
