PAGASA: Brace for significant rainfall in Metro Manila, other parts of Luzon

Manila Bulletin

May 29, 2025

Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon are likely to experience significant rainfall starting today, May 29, until Sunday, June 1, due to the combined effects of the southwesterly wind flow and frontal system, weather specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda said as she warned that continuous rains may trigger flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.

- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

Clauren-Jorda said the western sections of Luzon will experience scattered rain showers as the southwesterly wind flow, a precursor to the southwest monsoon or "habagat," begins to prevail.

Areas expected to be affected are the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and northern Palawan.

"We expect light to moderate to, at times, heavy rains, especially from Friday to Sunday, due to the southwesterly wind flow," Clauren-Jorda said.

Meanwhile, the frontal system, a weather system where warm and cold air meet, will continue to affect extreme Northern Luzon, bringing scattered rain showers over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Cagayan.

This is a time for ideas, not just emotions

In last week's column, I tackled how our political and economic uncertainties need meaningful discussion so that solutions can be pursued. The inability to do that will leave us mired in repetitive drama, with much noise but little meaning needed to move forward. This breeds despair and anxiety, and a lack of hope for the future.
