Fun facts about the Emerald Isle ahead of St Patrick's Day

IT’S St Patrick’s Day next Monday, celebrating the patron saint of Ireland.

Every March 17, people wear green for luck and also to be invisible to cheeky little mythological creatures called leprechauns, who like to pinch anyone they can see.

There are parades and parties all over the world, and some cities go to great lengths to celebrate. Officials in Chicago, USA, even use a plant-based dye to turn the city’s river green in honour of the saint and the Irish roots of many of its residents.
