Boardmen must answer for Amorim failure

SIR Jim Ratcliffe squabbled with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox at Molineux last month.

- By STEVEN RAILSTON

Wolves, the worst team in the Premier League, were drawing 1-1 with Manchester United at halftime and Ratcliffe appeared to be demanding answers from his two most empowered staff members.

Ratcliffe will demand further answers following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, which will cost around £10million and represent a significant and embarrassing set back to the Ineos project.

Berrada oversaw the appointment of Amorim and Wilcox has overseen recruitment, which makes the pair intrinsically linked to the Portuguese.

There is currently no indication that more heads will roll following Amorim's departure, but Berrada and Wilcox should be held accountable for this latest failure. Amorim has been a disaster and may well be remembered as the worst manager in United's modern history. He oversaw the worst season in 51 years and leaves with a record of 24 wins from 63 games.

In the Premier League, Amorim had the worst win ratio (32%), the worst goals conceded per game ratio (1.53) and the lowest clean sheet ratio (15%) of any United manager in history. Amorim presided over some of the worst results: a 1-0 loss to 10-man Everton, a 3-0 hammering against Manchester City and a shocking defeat to League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
