Respected Rooney right man for job
Macclesfield Express
|July 02, 2025
MACCLESFIELD owner Rob Smethurst reacted swiftly to Robbie Savage's departure by naming John Rooney as new manager.
-
Savage's decision to take up the managerial role at National League outfit Forest Green Rovers just three weeks before the start of pre-season left Smethurst with a choice continuity or complete change.
The owner opted for continuity given the success Macclesfield have enjoyed over the last few seasons.
And in Rooney he has an experienced player, well respected in the dressing room, who has been at the forefront of that success.
Rooney will work alongside the existing coaching team.
