Macc overshadowed by Sunlight batsmen

MACCLESFIELD'S first team made the long trip to Wirral for their first visit to Port Sunlight.

- SIMON GRIFFITH

Skipper Jack Massey won the toss and chose to field, a decision that did not get the rewards hoped for on what turned out to be a good batting wicket.

The Port openers, Lewis Davies and Richard Walker, went off like a train scoring at over 7 runs an over.

Massey changed his bowlers, taking pace off the ball and pulling back the run rate.

He finally got a break when he had Davies caught for 44 by Brad Porter, with the score on 123 in the 22nd over.

Miles Bradshaw quickly accounted for Jamie Hodgson, caught by wicket keeper Jimmy Longhorn but Walker still was going strong.

He gave a chance when on 72 but eventually he holed out for a run a ball 90, well caught by Hughes in the deep, Massey the bowler.

At 159-3 Port were still going at five an over. The fourth wicket put 20 before Simon Melberzs was lbw, again Massey the bowler.

Muzammil Sheik and Wayne Grieve kept up the pressure putting on 25 quickly before Sheik (36 runs from just 27 balls) was caught magnificently by Porter off John Birchall.

Port were now 204-5 off 36 overs.
