POLICE have issued advice designed to protect people from rogue traders after an elderly Loughborough woman was targeted by suspected scammers.

- By SAM KALANTZIS

The 84-year-old, who does not wish to be named, responded to a cold call from a firm offering to check her roof.

After scheduling an appointment, they told her it would cost £4,000 to clear moss from her roof and if she did not get this done soon, the roof was likely to leak.

The victim told her daughter, who advised her not to take up the offer.

It is one of a number of rogue trader reports in Leicestershire in recent times, with police warning of a rise in incidents in the county.
