CARMARTHEN Wanderers saw their title hopes dented in division two of the South Wales Premier Cricket League when they were lost at home to Pentyrch.

THOMAS KNOCK PROVES IN VAIN

In just one of two games to take place in the second tier, the Wanderers went down by six wickets at Trinity Fields.

The defeat leaves them third in the table, but they are now 26 points adrift of leaders Neath.

Home skipper Gareth Thomas scored a fine 66 to help his side to 198-8 off 43 overs. Kyle Marsh added 30 and opener Kurtis Marsh 23.

Syed Bukhari, Sam Ewen and Matthew Schonken all took two wickets for Pentyrch.

It looked a challenging target for the visitors, especially when they slipped to 90-4.

But Pentyrch found heroes in Bukhari and Brett Hole, who forged a partnership of 110 in 18 overs to steer their side to just their second success of the season.

Bukhari was 47 not out and Hole was unbeaten on 57 when victory was clinched.

Owain Binding took two wickets for the Wanderers.

Rain forced the cancellation of the game between Clydach and Dafen Welfare.

Showers also affected action in the top flight, with the match between Ammanford and Cardiff called off.

Meanwhile, Bronwydd went down to leaders Maesteg in division one of the South Wales Cricket Association.

Maesteg won their clash by 77 runs.
