Sinatra society aims to start spreading the news in membership drive
THE Liverpool branch of the Frank Sinatra Society has said it fears for its future after a steady drop in numbers in recent years.
Society member Alan Green, 65, told the ECHO how the society first came about: “The national society started in 1955, in the UK. This one here in Merseyside started in 1987. There was a lady called Barbara Skyner, who was a big Sinatra fan, and she put an ad in the paper for any other fans that were interested.
“She started a regular meeting of Sinatra fans, a monthly meeting where we'd play Frank and other singers of that era. Anyone interested would go along to her apartment, which is on the Wirral. They hired rooms in different parts of the city over the years, like hotels. It built up and built up, and we got a lot of members eventually.”
