TWO parents are facing constant uncertainty after the birth of their first child.

- By JAMIE GREER

Ace Quayle is six months old and his parents Lexi Krater and Luke Quayle, from West Kirby, are loving life with their newborn who always has a smile on his face.

However, they were initially told that Ace might not survive the birth after it was discovered he had chondrodysplasia punctata. This is a rare genetic disorder and form of dwarfism that affects fewer than 1 in 100,000 people worldwide, according to Metabolic Support UK.

Lexi and Luke have had to navigate the reality of becoming parents with the additional challenge of not knowing what the future will hold.

Speaking to the ECHO, Lexi, 20, said: "We went for the 20 weeks scan and they saw that he didn't have a nose bone. It was referred to a specialist and that's when they found out he was going to be born with this condition. They actually told us to terminate the pregnancy because it's so rare that they didn't know what they were dealing with."
