'I taught them well...' Dyche praises Blues back line
Liverpool Echo
|January 01, 2026
EVERTON left the City Ground with a win for the third season in a row after goals from James Garner and Thierno Barry were enough to overcome Nottingham Forest.
It was a satisfying win for David Moyes in the circumstances, with his depleted squad hit by further absences on the eve of the match - Carlos Alcaraz and Michael Keane the latest to join the injured list.
Here is a roundup of some of the moments beyond the headlines.
Away end lead brutal chant
Sean Dyche may be at a new club but he ends 2025 in the same position he finished 2024 - trying to build momentum with a team positioned just above the bottom three.
A defeat at Bournemouth in the new year proved the end for his tenure on Merseyside but he will be given more time in the east Midlands given the improvement he has led since being called upon to sort out the mess left by departures of Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou in the opening months of the campaign.
Sorting through the chaos is what Dyche did to great effect at Everton, navigating crises on and off the pitch to keep the club in the Premier League.
That work did not stop sections of the travelling support from having a moment at his expense though - with the away end chanting: "You're getting sacked in the morning."
Irony not lost on Dyche
Dyche was undone by a resilient display at the back from Everton, one he conceded dealt well with the 52 crosses his players sent into the Blues box.
James Tarkowski and Jake O'Brien, moved into centre back in response to Keane's issue, dominated in the aerial battles and Dyche accepted it was a tactic that did not yield success.
