The Netherlands international moved to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer after the Premier League champions activated the £29.5million release clause in his contract.

The 25-year-old's first half-season with Liverpool was admittedly derailed by two separate hamstring injuries. But the Dutchman has been in impressive form since making his comeback to the side last month.

Setting up the winner for Hugo Ekitike on his return at Tottenham Hotspur, he followed that up with further assists against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham before netting his first Anfield goal against Barnsley in the FA Cup.

Frimpong's game-time has been split between right-back and right-wing since joining the Reds, with the Dutchman finding himself predominantly utilised in a more advanced role in recent weeks in the absence of Mohamed Salah during the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, with the Egyptian set to return to Merseyside next week and Conor Bradley now ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a season-ending knee injury, Frimpong is likely to be need more at right-back.
