'Behind the shelter in the middle of a roundabout...'

THE owner of a Beatles landmark has been accused of pursuing an “unrealistic dream” as the building continues to lie empty after closing as a restaurant 23 years ago.

For the first time since 2003, the ECHO was granted access to the former Sergeant Pepper's Bistro in Allerton.

Once a bus shelter and public toilet, it was immortalised by The Beatles in the song Penny Lane the building faces the lane across Smithdown Road although the track does not feature on the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
