The league's top goalscorer, Michael Cheek, guided the visitors to victory as he netted his 13th and 14th goals of the season after remarkably being left unmarked in the Rovers box on two separate occasions.

The hosts suffered a disastrous start to their first home game of 2026, losing possession twice inside their own half during the buildup to Cheek’s opener - a goal that came after just 90 seconds.

McGowan gave an honest assessment after full-time against Andy Woodman’s Bromley side.

He said: “I can only apologise to the fans because too many times we are at home and not winning games, not even drawing them, to be honest with you. We just lose one, win one and say, ‘Oh that will see us through, brilliant!!

“Leaving the top goalscorer in the league five yards out unmarked one minute in probably isn't the best start to the game. You can't teach it really, the lads know.

“But if we're not applying [what we're told to do) then there's an issue. Let's call a spade a spade, there is an issue and it has been an issue all season, to be honest with you.”
