59-year-old man dies after being detained by cops

A MAN has died after he was detained by police.

Merseyside Police said shortly before 12.24pm yesterday, officers detained a 59-year-old man on Southport Road in Bootle.

During the interaction, the man collapsed and became unconscious.

The force said officers administered CPR and called for an ambulance.

The man was later taken to hospital, however, he died an hour later.

Merseyside Police said the incident had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The man’s next of kin have also been informed.
