Doctor to receive £250k from NHS after being sacked

A DOCTOR is set to receive more than £250,000 from a Lincolnshire hospital trust after he was sacked.

Professor Tanweer Ahmed had a spotless record with the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, where he had worked for 16 years by the time he was let go over allegations of bullying.

Professor Ahmed had been the director of Lincolnshire Clinical Research Facility at the time, and he also chaired the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff network. However, he was later fired for gross misconduct.

The situation first went before an employment tribunal in early 2021, and from then until late 2022 there were various hearings and judgements made in relation to the case. It was found that Professor Ahmed had been the victim of racial discrimination and unfair dismissal.

The doctor had previously said in 2022 that he always knew justice would prevail. He said the long-running saga led to him being prescribed antidepressants to cope with the emotional impact.

Allegations of bullying and harassment were made against the professor by a former member of his team after they resigned in 2018. Prof Ahmed said the allegations were a “malicious retaliation”
