Recovering addict stole from store to fund hotel stay

A RECOVERING addict stole from a store a number of times in a bid to pay for hotel stays.

Adam Carroll claimed the thefts would help fund stays to ensure he was kept away from fellow users at Leicester's Dawn Centre shelter.

Carroll, who was recovering from a class A drug addiction, stole £412.50 worth of items from the London Road Coop in Stoneygate, Leicester, during a four-week period.

Leicester Magistrates' Court heard he had been stealing on the days when he had failed to make enough from begging to pay for a hotel room for the night.
