A NEW housing estate that has been waiting in the wings for 10 years has suffered a new setback.

Davidsons Developments wants to build 175 homes on land between Melton and the village of Burton Lazars to its southeast, but the much-delayed project has been sidelined once more by councillors.

The latest delay came after councillors on Melton Borough Council said they needed to see a financial report from the developer.

Davidsons Developments had claimed it would not be able to pay almost £6.7 million in requested contributions - known as Section 106 funding - towards local infrastructure and services, offering instead a £3.5 million payment towards education.
