Land swap proposal for 'blight' in city centre

A LAND swap deal to regenerate a so-called Leicester city centre “blight” is set to be carried out by the council.

The deal, which has a price tag of £400,000, would see Leicester City Council take ownership of land which previously boasted the Big John’s autos car garage between Midland Street and Southampton Street.

The land was most recently a temporary car park, but was branded a “blight on the surrounding neighbourhood” by the council.

Now, the authority intends to prepare the land for redevelopment into offices, at which point it is likely to sell it on as a development opportunity.
