Families heap praise on the crews who've been carrying out repairs to road in village

They have been forced to shut the pothole-covered road for three weeks

Families heap praise on the crews who've been carrying out repairs to road in village

FAMILIES have backed major repairs on a busy A-road that cuts through their village. Residents in Wetley Rocks say the A520 had been riddled with 'potholes and sinking grids' along with a 'cracked and crumbling road surface'.

But the £1.4 million scheme on Main Road has proved problematic for workers from Staffordshire County Council.

Highways chiefs had previously revealed how 'additional issues' had been encountered after starting work on June 30.

And last month the local authority confirmed the road would have to shut for three weeks - from August 13 - with crews working six-days-a-week to get it fixed.

Leaders say the teams had to dig deeper - but in doing so ensure the structure of the road would require less maintenance in the future.

Despite the disruption, residents in Wetley Rocks have heaped praise on the crews and are pleased to see the battered A-road finally fixed. Families say workers have gone 'above and beyond' in their efforts to keep locals updated.

Villagers say the A520 has fallen victim to an increase in traffic in recent years and a 'very large number' of trucks passing through. They also hope a better road will help stop them feeling the vibrations from traffic.
