LEWINGTON GUIDES COBHAM TO PREMIER SOUTH PLAY-OFF FINAL
CRAIG LEWINGTON is hoping to guide Cobham to the Isthmian League for the first time in their history this week.
Cobham earned a spot in the Combined Counties League Premier South play-off final after beating Redhill 3-2 on penalties at Kiln Brow in the semi-final.
After a competitive game in which defences ruled the roost, ending 0-0, Lewington’s men came out on top in spot-kicks.
They were due to face the winner of the other semi-final, Jersey Bulls, away in the Channel Islands on Wednesday night, after this newspaper had gone to press, with a place at Step 4 the reward for the winner.
If Cobham were to win the final they would be placed in the Isthmian League South Central, alongside Leatherhead, Met Police and Westfield.
And while having four days to prepare to fly out to Jersey wasn’t ideal, Lewington was ready to embrace the challenge.
“We'll be going out Wednesday and flying back Thursday morning, so it’s not ideal,” the Cobham manager explained. “I think the plan was the final was going to be on Saturday originally, but for whatever reason, we're Wednesday night now. It’s not ideal, but you'd rather be doing it than not.
