Jennifer Cartwright on Destination X
-
If you stood in front of the Eiffel Tower, you would easily know you were in Paris. Likewise, if you strolled around the Coliseum, you would figure out you were in Rome.
But what if you had to find out where you were without landmarks, language, or even a map?
In Destination X, a group of Brits embark on a mysterious road trip in a blacked out coach. The challenge is to work out their location based on cryptic clues such as an image of an ultra zoomed in map or a magazine cover featuring Harry Kane. Last until the end and you win £100,000.
Although most of us may assume we know our mainland European neighbours pretty well, it turns out it is quite difficult to pinpoint exactly where you are based solely on production designed hints and the occasional cultural clue.
However, the joy of Destination X is to play along and test if you can hear the difference between Dutch and Flemish or if you can see the contrast between Swiss Alps and Austrian mountains.
The production team have played into this by creating an online game where you can see if you would survive the episode by guessing a location as you watch.
