An elderly relative recently described a subject they appeared to hold opinions on stronger than their actual knowledge of as 'woke'.

Someone woke up to discover a new word in the dictionary ...

The context suggested they had decided to wheel out a new word for the first time after reading it in The Daily Telegraph and I was to be their Guinea pig.

It was also clear that they had decided being woke was a bad thing.

Being in the mood for a debate I asked them what it meant and their answer fell some way short of my understanding.
