My broken bone didn't spoil the family Easter break get-together

A few weeks ago, I did something I'd never done before: I broke a bone! I wish I had a more entertaining story to share with you, but I managed to break a bone in my right hand whilst walking upstairs at home early on a Monday morning! That little trip caused me considerable stress and lots of hasty rearranging.

- Hayley Kay

I was amazed by how rubbish I was at most things with my left hand; typing anything on the laptop took almost double the time. As well as broadcasting, I officiate funerals involving lots of writing, note-taking at the initial meeting, and then writing the eulogy. My clients were very understanding, and it didn't slow me down too much.

Having my whole lower arm, wrist and most of my hand in a cast was a challenge; simple things like taking a shower or making the children's tea suddenly required much more planning and effort.

I'm lucky, though; after four weeks in a cast, I was able to wear a support and after another fortnight, nothing. My physio starts next week, so after that, I'll be able to close this chapter. I hope never to darken the door of the fracture clinic again!

I'm pleased to say that we managed to get away and enjoy our first adventures in the motorhome over Easter!
