Meet the football gaffer's wife who is tirelessly raising millions to battle cancer

She could have been one of the WAGs - the wives and girlfriends of the Premier League stars - but Debbie Dowie has decided to use her experience to help others, raising almost £2 million in the process.

The mum-of-two, and wife to ex-football manager Iain Dowie, Debbie launched Boot Out Breast Cancer more than 15 years ago after receiving her own cancer treatment.

With an aim to support cancer patients and those closest to them, Debbie, from Chorley, has raised £1.85m in total, funding equipment for the Central Lancashire Breast Unit at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.

Debbie, who has grownup sons Ollie and Will with former Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham striker Iain, underwent a mastectomy in 2009 aged 41 after being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

Debbie said: "One day, I just noticed an area of puckering. I showed it to a GP friend of mine and straightaway, she said she didn't like the look of it and to go immediately to my own GP.
