Valley Wide Alert As Experts Trace Adulterated Oil

Officials of Food and Supplies Department and Srinagar Municipality in joint raids today seized tins of adulterated edible oil, capable of causing dreaded dropsy.
Alert has been sounded and people warned not to use contaminated brands.
The joint teams today and yesterday fanned out in different directions of capital Srinagar and raided various godowns and retail outlets of edible oil, leading to the seizure of 7800 tins of P. Mark and over 100 cannisters of Hira Brand mustard oil.
Sampling, followed by analysis on war footing of the seized' edible oil tins was done by assistant public analyst from State's Drug and Food Control organisation.
The assistant public analyst, Mushtaq Ahmed Khateeb confirmed adulteration in Hira brand, packed under seal number 200201/PFAK, Dated 4-9-1998.
