The Battle of Badr
Kashmir Observer
|MARCH 8, 2026 ISSUE
The Prophet’s strategic alliances around Medina and the Red Sea corridor brought Meccan power face to face with a rising Muslim force.
The situation in Mecca was getting worse by the day. The Prophet, peace be upon him, and his companions were living in constant fear and uncertainty. The pagans were determined to harm them, so leaving for Yathrib seemed like the only real option.
While Mecca grew darker, Yathrib was opening up to Islam. The people there were ready to accept the faith and pledge their loyalty to the Prophet.
In the twelfth year of his mission, seventyfive pilgrims from Yathrib met with him at midnight. This meeting changed everything.
They accepted Islam and invited the Prophet to come live among them, offering him full leadership and protection. This was a genuine offer of trust and authority, which marked the beginning of a true Islamic state.
The people of Yathrib knew exactly what they were getting into. Welcoming the Prophet meant facing the full force of Quraish’s anger. They understood they might pay a heavy price. But these seventy-five men stood firm.
Under the stars in Mecca, they took an oath to stand by him no matter what.
Asad Bin Zurarah, one of their leaders, spoke up and warned them straight: “Listen carefully. If we take in the Prophet, all of Arabia may turn against us. Our people might be killed. Our families could be torn apart. Can we handle an attack from his enemies? If you're ready for this, take his hand. If not, leave now. God may forgive you tonight, but not forever.”
Another leader, Abbas Bin Ubadah, added: “You know this could cost you everything you own and even your families. If you're still committed to making him your leader, then shake his hand. Great rewards await you.”
With one voice, they pledged their lives, their families, and everything they had to follow the Prophet to Yathrib, whatever the cost.
This became known as the Second Pledge of Agabah, a defining moment in Islamic history.
