SOUTHERN WATER AMONG SIX FAILING COMPANIES FORCED INTO MOVE
-
A NEW law has come into force banning executive bonuses at six failing water companies in England, including Southern Water.
The Water (Special Measures) Act, which took effect on Friday (June 6), prohibits bonuses for firms that fail to meet tough environmental, financial or customer service standards.
East Thanet MP Polly Billington welcomed the move, having campaigned on the issue before the general election.
“It's a disgrace that executives have been paid hundreds of thousands of pounds in bonuses despite soaring bills, poor infrastructure, and huge fines for illegal sewage dumping,” she said.
“This shocking gravy train comes to an end today. Southern Water bosses won't receive a penny until they deliver for customers and the environment.”
Ms Billington highlighted that constituents frequently expressed anger about water company failures.
