>> Ajax ready to offload captain to save paying £100k-a-week wages >> Desperate Dutch look at salary deal... opening door for Black Cats to sign hero

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

JORDAN HENDERSON has been told he can leave Ajax for free.

The England midfielder, who turns 35 this month, is not in new coach Johnny Heitinga’s plans.

And the Dutch club hope talk of newly promoted Sunderland offering Henderson a return gains more traction now that their stance is clear.

Ajax are desperate to get Henderson's £100,000-a-week wages off the books after being forced to pay a raft of big-money bonuses following their qualification for the Champions League.

They will even consider subsidising some of his salary to help seal a move.
