Gardai set to prepare file for DPP after man released without charge

SEARCHES on the farmland near the home of farmer Michael Gaine continued yesterday after a man arrested over his suspected murder was released without charge.

The latest search operations, supported by local, regional, and national Garda units, other emergency services and the Defence Forces, have been ongoing since last Friday at Carrig East, Kenmare, Co Kerry.

It comes as gardai are now set to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

However, sources say it could be several months before the office of the DPP makes a decision on whether the individual should be charged or told he will not be prosecuted.

Gardai had questioned the man for 24 hours following his arrest on Sunday over the murder of Mr Gaine, 56, who disappeared from his farm outside Kenmare on March 20.
