Emery wants repeated qualification with Europe's elite

UNAI EMERY is determined to avoid Aston Villa being a one-season wonder in the Champions League and is seeking a lasting legacy.

Villa head into tonight's last-16 second leg against Club Brugge at Villa Park in the driving seat after last week's 3-1 win in Belgium.

The last time they reached the quarter-finals was 1983 when they were beaten by Juventus - after they were crowned European Cup winners in 1982.

Villa were, however, unable to stay among the elite back then and were even relegated from the top flight in 1987 before bouncing back at the first attempt.

Emery (left inset) has already worked wonders in his two-and-a-half years in charge, leading the Villans back into Europe in his first season at the helm despite inheriting a side languishing in the bottom half.
