RORY MCILROY has claimed he'll be happy to step aside for the younger generation while he still has “a little left in the tank.”

The 35-year-old said: “I don't want to be out there embarrassing myself.”

McIlroy will tee up at the $25million Players Championships today, gutted to hear of the latest injury setback to his friend Tiger Woods.

The American star, who turns 50 this year, has undergone surgery after rupturing his Achilles tendon and faces a real battle to return to top-level golf.

McIlroy will make his 11th bid to complete his career Grand Slam at the Masters next month.
