We saw in the Armagh/Kerry game how a game can turn on a kickout strategy being decoded. Ethan Rafferty, the Armagh keeper, went into his shell and didn’t come out of it.

And it made me think. Any time Donegal have struggled in games during the year has been when Shaun Patton can't get his kicks away. But the major positive is that he has always solved the conundrum.

Perhaps a part of the blame lies out the field, too?

This is still year one of this new kickout, so maybe we are still feeling our way through it but an observation I've made in a lot of club and county games is that the primary receiver and those around him are just too stationary.
