Quick getaway for Rory after he has a US PGA to forget

RORY MCILROY arrived at the US PGA Championship saying a sixth major win would be a “bonus” - but departed quietly having driven himself to distraction.

In his pre-tournament press conference, a carefree McIlroy discussed not wishing to “burden” himself any further having finally achieved his dream of the career grand slam.

But his decision not to speak to the media after each of his four rounds hardly smacked of a man enjoying getting that monkey off his back.

McIlroy opted for another quick getaway from Quail Hollow last night after finishing three-over par, his worst performance at the tournament since missing the cut in 2016.
