Feast-ive spirit strong at Cork charity's new HQ
Irish Daily Star
|December 03, 2025
FOOD charity Cork Penny Dinners has appealed for people who fear going hungry this Christmas to get in touch - as it marks its first year in its new James Street HQ.
The charity, which started serving food to the needy 137 years ago, is now well positioned to meet demand with its new facilities according to General Manager Sharon Murphy, who was appointed to the role in March this year.
"We have seen an increase in the number of families seeking support from Cork Penny Dinners," said Murphy, adding that the charity's new data capture system enables the team to identify how many people are helped and how many are seeking support this Christmas and into next year.
The system is just one change that helps the charity to operate efficiently and plan ahead so all resources are directed towards helping service users.
"The cost of living crisis is hitting families and we see that reflected in those reaching out now for support. In September and October alone, a total of 149 individuals requested help - with 17 of those families needing support for children. This is outside of our daily food service at the door," added Murphy, who is urging those seeking support for Christmas to get in touch now to ensure they can be accommodated.
