CLAMPDOWN ON LEARNER DRIVERS
Irish Daily Star
|September 15, 2025
Extra lessons after 7 years no test pass =
LEARNER drivers who fail their test twice will be forced to take more lessons, under new Government proposals.
Trainee motorists will also be required to sit a driving test after their third learner permit in the new get-tough rules.
And if a learner has not passed a test within seven years then they are treated as a beginner again, and must retake the theory test plus have more driving lessons.
Sean Canney, the minister responsible for road safety, is bringing in the new measures.
Upcoming law changes which could be in force by next month will require learners to sit a test after their third learner permit.
