'Catastrophic failings' over our sick kids

CHILDREN have been "catastrophically failed" by Children's Health Ireland in a “string of failures” that have “breached trust”, the Dail has heard.

Just days after a report into hip dysplasia surgery in children and a Sunday Times report that procedures on kids had been delayed due to the decision to move them from public to private waiting lists, Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill confirmed three board members of Children's Health Ireland have resigned.

The Sunday Times reported that a consultant breached HSE guidelines by referring patients he was seeing in his public practice to his weekend private clinics, rather than securing earlier treatment for them by referring them to HSE colleagues.
