ANNEKA CAN RISE TO CHALLENGE AT NEWCASTLE

PREFERENCE in this novice is for CHALLENGE ANNEKA, who went into the notebook after a debut at Yarmouth last season where she was looked after having made a promising mid-race move.

- RORY DELARGY

6.00 Newcastle - Class 5 Fillies' Novice Stakes 6f

Sent off at 50/1 for that first outing, she looked in need of the run for experience but still took the eye physically (good, scopey sort) and with how she shaped for a long way in the race.

Challenge Anneka has been off the track for a long time since that run in August last year but has subsequently joined Ed Bethell, who has an excellent record with horses starting out for the yard.

In fact, of 13 horses who have joined Bethel in the past two years having raced for another yard, six have won, and that strike rate increases to 5-9 when Callum Rodriguez has been in the saddle.
