But that's how the anti-ICE protests began. Demonstrations and marches began in Los Angeles last weekend in response to federal immigration raids in California.

The immigration crackdown was supposed to target undocumented criminals. But it is tearing apart families, ensuring hardship on people already living on the peripheries of society and traumatising law abiding people.

And America doesn't actually stand for that.

Being undocumented in the US is not a crime in itself. It's a civil offence with devastating legal consequences. And before now, ICE agents would not alert their presence to undocumented communities.
