Coldest pads named in new county index

AS yet another unpredictable storm season looms this winter, many householders' thoughts are turning to making their homes as cosy as can be.

A retrofitting revolution has been slowly rolling out across the country for several years now but new research shows it is getting to some parts quicker than others.

Ireland's coldest homes have now been revealed in a county-by-county list.

And taking the unwanted top spot is Leitrim, followed by its Connacht neighbour Sligo and Munster's Tipperary.

The survey reveals Cork, Carlow and Waterford are among the best counties at keeping their homes warm.

The research, created by Calor Gas, analysed average winter temperatures alongside the proportion of energy-inefficient homes across the country.
