Ukrainian president will call in to Aras and address Oireachtas

- BY GRAINNE NI AODHA

UKRAINIAN President Volodymyr Zelensky landed in Ireland late last night for his first official visit.

He arrived at Dublin Airport with First Lady Olena Zelenska.

Today he will pay a courtesy call to President Catherine Connolly at Aras an Uachtarain.

He will then be met by Taoiseach Micheal Martin on the steps of Government Buildings before addressing a joint sitting of the Houses of the Oireachtas in the afternoon.

Mr Zelesnky will also attend the inaugural Ireland-Ukraine Economic Forum with Tanaiste Simon Harris.

SECURITY

Strict security measures are in place at Leinster House and surrounding areas for the visit.

Ukraine's war time leader was last in Ireland in February, when his plane stopped off to refuel ahead of a visit to Washington DC.

His visit to Ireland comes at a critical time in the conflict with Russia, as the Taoiseach plans to discuss with him how Ireland can help at the negotiating table.
