Mahony had feeling he could deliver rare goal in decider

BALLYGUNNER joint-captain Mikey Mahony wouldn't be known for his goal-scoring exploits. On Sunday, he bagged one when it mattered most.The deep-lying wing-forward even joked before the Waterford kingpins’ All-Ireland final against Loughrea that it might be the day hed find the net.

That scenario went from dream to reality in the 35th minute when Mahony was played through by his fellow joint-captain Peter Hogan to rifle home the vital score.

“I probably wouldn't be known for getting the goals. But funnily enough, myself and Paddy Leavey were joking beforehand and we said it might be the day youd bag one’ said Mahony.

“I don't know if you talk it into existence or something like that, but it makes it all the sweeter.”
