A single writer's dating app match isn't all he's cracked up to be in this new psychological thriller

Romance ruse

After dazzling the Marvel Cinematic Universe in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and fronting the comedy series Strife in Australia, Asher Keddie dives into sinister waters in psychological thriller Fake.

In the eight-parter, the Aussie actress portrays food features writer Birdie Bell who seems to have it all a career, confidence and charisma - but who is still longing for love.

Raised in the shadow of her parents' epic love story, Birdie is determined to find her own fairy tale. "Her mother has convinced her that she will meet Prince Charming," Asher, 50, says. "Birdie wants to fulfil her mother's dream for her."

Enter Joe Burt. On a dating app, he looks like the perfect catch - a ruggedly charming property developer and self-declared environmentalist. But as their romance blossoms, Birdie starts to question how much of Joe's world is real and how much is smoke and mirrors.

In Fake, Lord Of The Rings actor David Wenham takes on the role of the enigmatic Joe. Although his character is deeply deceptive, David, 59, insists that Joe's intentions aren't as malicious as they might appear.
