Protests in France threaten royal visit

UNIONS in France will refuse to roll out the red carpet for King Charles, who has been warned to stay away from a lavish banquet as wild protests continue over pension reforms.

The monarch and wife Camilla are due to meet President Emmanuel Macron on Monday but the venue may be changed amid fears over rioting.

Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of the France Unbowed party, said that the King should avoid Versailles Palace.
