Mum murder rap son's self defence plea

A MAN accused of murdering his mother has told his trial she died during a “struggle” in which he defended himself after she attacked him with a knife, swung her hands at him and tried to kick him.

Nigel Canavan, 39, said Angela Canavan, 58, was “screaming obscenities” during a “tirade” of abuse.

He also said he didn't mean to kill his mother, adding: “I was defending myself in the course of a heated argument.”
