Cops keen to nab more for Citywest disorder

GARDAI are determined to bring the perpetrators of the Citywest riots to justice, Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly has declared.

The top cop declared the chaos that unfolded was "not a peaceful protest" and urged the public, particularly young males to stay away from any further demonstrations planned.

The riots were sparked after a 10-year-old girl, who was in Tusla's care, was allegedly sexually assaulted. A man has since been charged in relation to it.

Commissioner Kelly said attempts were made to breach the Garda cordon with scramblers and horses and bottles and fireworks were thrown at officers.

Speaking at Garda HQ yesterday, Commissioner Kelly said: "Six persons were arrested and five males have appeared this morning at the Courts of Criminal Justice.
